Your choice of tile grout colour makes a big difference to the appearance of your bathroom or kitchen splashback. Gone are the days when white grout was the only choice. Nowadays, grout is available in every shade imaginable… even gold!
Grout plays an important role in the aesthetics of your space; the colour of grout will determine whether the eye is drawn to the individual tile or to the overall pattern of the tiles across the surface.
White Grout
Using a light coloured grout, particularly in conjunction with white tiles, can create a bright, clean and fresh look. But the most obvious drawback to white grout is that it will get dirty in no time! It will show stains and will be difficult to keep clean. Even with consistent cleaning it is nearly impossible to protect it from staining and discoloration over time. This is why Tile Wizards always recommends sealing your grout with an appropriate grout sealer.
Because of this, dark grout has gained in popularity.
Dark Grout
Choosing a grout that is darker in colour helps conceal dirt and is less likely to change in colour as quickly as a light coloured grout. It can also enhance the look of the bathroom, helping light tiles to look even lighter and to add a textured pattern that draws the eye.
Darker grouts, however, are also more prone to fading and staining when cleaned with products that are too harsh or with tools that are too abrasive. Once the colour is impacted, it is difficult to bring it back to its original shade.
Some experts recommend shades that are neither dark nor super light. Colours like tan, beige, light brown and grey are easy to keep clean and are less prone to fading.
Using gentle cleaning products and applying appropriate grout sealer to dark or light grout helps to maintain the colour of your grout for years to come.
