Tile Wizards guide to everything carpet
Choosing carpets can be confusing at the best of times and downright frustrating at worst, but luckily Tile Wizards is here to explain some of the commonly used carpet terms and make it easy for you to find the right carpet for your home.
Types of Carpet
The first thing about carpets is the cut of the carpets. The primary types of carpet are loop pile, cut pile, cut pile twist, and cut and loop pile. Loop pile consists of looped strands giving the carpet a smooth and firm look to the carpet that can handle higher traffic and wear. Cut pile is a straight cut fibre look to your carpet, giving it a softer and more luscious look to the carpet. Cut pile can be changed into a cut pile twist that will give the strands a thicker look and give more firmness to the carpet. Cut and loop pile is a combination of the two main cuts of carpet fibre that give an alternative pattern and texture to your carpet.
Carpet Materials
After picking a cut, picking a material for your carpet comes next. When it comes to choosing some carpets, picking the right material for the job is vitally important. The most popular material we use in our carpets is solution dyed nylon carpeting, as it is the best balanced between durability and ease of cleaning without breaking the bank. You can find some fantastic solution dyed nylon carpets from Feltex Redbook and TuftMaster carpets such as the Hermes Twist Range which is made from 100% nylon. Carpets are also popularly made from polyester which has similar qualities to solution dyed nylon at a more attractive cost. A fantastic example of a wonderful looking polyester carpet available now is the Skyway range by Feltex, available in a huge range of colours is perfect for any home looking for quality carpeting.
Colours
The final thing you need to know about installing a new carpet is the colours available. As a general rule you should always note that darker colours will make a room appear smaller and more relaxed, ideal for a den or bedroom to give it a warmer feel, while lighter colours will make the room look bigger and more inviting, ideal for a smaller lounge room or a main area to give a bright and inviting appearance.
