Comparing The Different Timber-Look Flooring Products
Buying a first house is a great achievement, but very rarely are first homes our dream homes. And while new home owners usually set some money aside for home improvements, installing hardwood floors throughout might not quite fit the budget. If you are after great quality products that can fulfil your design dreams while not breaking the bank, there’s a variety of timber look flooring options that can work in your home; engineered timber, bamboo, laminate, and loose lay vinyl.
If you are not sure what timber look flooring is right for you, read on. We have gathered the main points of difference of each of these options, but if by the end of this article you’re still unsure, come and see our team at any of our stores, and we will be happy to help.
Engineered Timber
Designed to combine the look of natural wood with an easy installation, engineered timber flooring is a great alternative to hardwood flooring, especially in terms of price.
Especially for minimal home renovations, engineered timber flooring is the perfect option, as it can be installed over any flat surface – including tiles. All you need is a good quality underlay to provide better noise and moisture insulation.
Solid Bamboo
This sustainable and stylish flooring option is very popular at the moment. It is extremely durable, and offers homeowners the option of sanding and refinishing, making it more versatile than other flooring options.
Laminate
If you are on a tight budget and/or schedule, laminate flooring is a great option for you, as it is very affordable and extremely easy to install.
Very popular amongst DIYers, as the click/lock technology is very easy to pick up. Laminate flooring can also be used in kitchens and powder rooms.
Due to the use of underlays, laminate flooring is also very comfortable to stand on – unlike traditional hardwood floors. Laminate is also easy to clean, and quite durable, with some manufacturers giving 10 + year warranties.
Loose Lay Vinyl
This new technology allows for the easiest installation amongst all timber flooring options.
As it is a non-click lock system, all you need to do is prepare the floor and use a Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) and install the loose lay vinyl planks or tiles to the floor.
PSA can be rolled on with a paint roller and stays tacky, and in case one of the planks gets damaged, you can easily remove it and replace it. This ease of installation and removal makes it a very versatile product – and if the area gets wet, simply pull it up, dry the area and relay.
