Tile Wizards brings you our tips and tricks for DIY flooring improvements.
Doing a DIY flooring job can be not only rewarding, but also can make you aware of several of the parts of a flooring job that you might not have considered. Just a few tips and tricks when it comes to a DIY project can make all the difference in the world. Here are our tips and tricks to make your DIY project go smooth and get you the results you are after.
1. Don’t waste anything!
When doing a DIY project there will inevitably be many offcuts of material and leftover parts from your latest DIY flooring endeavour. This is especially important when laying materials such as tile or loose-lay vinyl, as often times you have to trim the material to fit your room. These offshoots from your latest DIY flooring can be used not only to replace or fill in extra gaps that you might not have foreseen in the floor but can be used for a few other DIY projects. 2. Always measure twice
When you are undertaking a DIY project the most important thing to do is to get the correct quantity of materials, especially when flooring a room in your home. The easiest way to make sure that you have the right amount of materials is to make sure that you measure your room carefully, then measure it again to be sure you have the exact right measurements. Not only this, but if you are installing any odd shaped planks or tiles, making sure that the shape of the flooring will fit the shape of the room. Buying a certain amount of extra materials for the floor of your room is also always a good idea in the case of an accidental breakage of incorrect cutting of any of your materials. Extra materials give you some leeway in the DIY flooring project, which is bound to happen.
3. Consult an expert before undertaking a major DIY flooring project
DIY projects, as much as they can go well and give you a great result, can often go wrong, especially if your only point of reference is an article on the internet or a video tutorial. Often times these sources will make generalisations about flooring your home DIY style and might have different opinions on how to properly floor a room.
Having an expert in flooring explain how to properly floor a room like the one you are aiming to can give you some first-hand insight into how you could floor your home.
Being well informed is the first step towards a successful DIY project and Tile Wizards is here to make sure you are fully prepared for your next DIY job.
