Using Tiles For Your Kitchen Backsplash
Kitchen splashbacks are an essential element of any kitchen. They link the worlds of kitchen design and functionality together and help reflect your own personality. However, when trying to select your new splashback we understand that the choices can be daunting. Instead of choosing a plain glass splashback why not add some pizazz and tile your splashback instead! Think tiling is too hard? Don’t worry, we’re here to help –
Here are 3 tips to make your tiled kitchen splashback a success!
1. Measure
Embrace your inner OCD and measure, remeasure and remeasure! A good rule of thumb is to add 10 percent to the area of space behind your cooktop. This will account for breakage and mistakes on the job. So for example if you have 15 square meters for a backsplash, order 18 square meters of tile – it’s that simple!
2. Cut Down
Save precious dollars by cutting down on the tiles needed for your new splashback whilst maintaining high style. We find that using a 10 centimetre-high backsplash with our range of smaller, more intricate tiles instead of the standard 45-centimetre high version helps reduce project costs, covers the required area and still looks great – especially in smaller spaces.
3. Complement
Don’t forget to think about how your splashback will complement the overall design of the space and fit in together. Splashbacks are like your kitchens jewellery – it can either compliment or clash! The countertop you have will greatly influence the splashback you install – a busy splash back will clash with a busy countertop that has a lot of variation. Therefore, it’s best to consider how the tiles you choose for your splashback will enhance the other elements in the room, and vice versa.
