How to Use Your Leftover Flooring Materials for DIY Activities!

Have you recently finished renovating or building and have some excess material left over? Tile Wizards has some great DIY activities to ensure you have no flooring materials leftover and you don’t waste your money.

Whenever you do a renovation, there are always materials left over, but what do you do with them? You’ve paid for them so throwing these extra materials away would just be a waste. Below is a list of a few easy DIY activities that you can do to use your leftover flooring materials to either decorate your house or make some personal, unique gifts!

1. Mirror

For this project all you need is a minimum of two leftover planks, a frameless mirror, and some handy tools and you can have yourself a brand new wooden framed mirror. Didn’t use timber? You can also use your leftover tiles to revitalise an old mirror.

2. Personal Home Decor Signs

This one is super easy and creates decorations to hang up around the house – one plank, an alphabet stencil and some paint is all it takes. You can also make these sweet little signs with any tiles that you have leftover.

3. Art

Patterned Tiles or plain tiles (we recommend sprucing them up with paint or pens if plain), a frame and your imagination are all you need and you can create one-of-a-kind art pieces.

4. Coasters and Placemats

Here is one for basically any leftover flooring material you have: tile, wood, carpet and other materials. You can turn them into coasters or placemats. All you need is glue, cork (for carpet you can also use waterproof rubber) and whatever shape you desire.

5. Utilities

Put leftover planks to good use. Just cut off the tongue and make shelving units, wall hooks plus other useful appliances for around the house. However, your floorboards aren’t the only ones that can be helpful around the house; make use of those leftover tiles and create an elegant looking jewellery holder.

6. Serving Tray

Another genius way to use those leftover tiles (especially those feature tiles) is to use them together to create a decorative serving tray. You can use it during a fancy dinner party or just as a decorative piece in the house.

7. Photo Frames

Use leftover timber, vinyl laminate or even bamboo flooring to create awesome photo frames. You could even use small feature tiles, but make sure you use some strong glue!
