Tile Wizards Tips to Help You Out of Carpet Dents
Having carpets installed throughout your home, in bedrooms and living areas, can be a very smart move, in terms of comfort, insulation, and even to improve air quality. But what often happens to homeowners a several months or years after investing in beautiful carpet flooring, is that someone will be cleaning or re-arranging the furniture and find carpet dents that won’t work themselves out. If you are struggling to remove carpet dents or are thinking of ways to avoid future ones, our team at Tile Wizards have put together some tips to help you out.
Dent removal
The first thing you should do to try and get rid of carpet dents is simply massaging the carpet fibres that have been crushed. Depending on the carpet material, and how long dents have been there, this will suffice. If it doesn’t, we recommend placing an ice cube over each dent, and leave them to melt overnight. Then, in the morning, try massaging the now hydrated fibres again.
Prevention is better than cure
While the above trick might help, some carpet materials won’t bounce back once the fibre structure has been damaged, so the best thing to do is take preventive measures so that carpet dents don’t happen in the first place. Here are our top tips:
1. Furniture Coasters
Also called caster cups, are designed to better distribute the weight of furniture like heavy couches. Some even have spikes that face down into the carpet, lifting the furniture, which distributes weight differently, helping minimise dents. Make sure you buy the right sizes, and double check how many legs there actually are – some couches have more than four legs.
2. Carpet cushions
If you have any leftover carpet from when you first purchased and installed it, this is a great DIY trick to help with dents. Cut out protection pads, making sure they’re slightly larger than the bottom of furniture legs. If legs are visible, make sure you trim them nicely to the same shape of the legs. If they’re not, you don’t have to worry too much about it.
3. Moving furniture
This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to re-arrange the whole house every few months. Of course, you can do that if you want to, but simply moving heavy furniture a few centimetres away from their original position every few weeks will help prevent deep dents and irreversible damage to the carpet.
