Complement Room Design With Carpets
Flooring is definitely one of the biggest decisions you’ll have to make when designing or renovating your home and the choices go way beyond the tile/timber/carpet trio.
If you have decided to go with the comfort and durability of carpet, here are five ways you can incorporate its many different colours and patterns into your design.
1. Pick out the carpet first
It’s easier to match paint to carpet than the other way around. So you should pick out the carpet first. It is great if you already have an idea of the colour palette you want to go for, as it narrows down your options, but remember carpet doesn’t have to be just the foundation of your design, you can also use it as a focal point to the room.
2. Texture rather than colour
As changing flooring can be expensive and time-consuming, committing to bold carpet colours and designs might not be ideal for you, but that doesn’t mean you have to play it safe. Stick to neutral colours and patterns but go for interesting textures in the rest of your design. Adding a leather couch, a wool throw, some colourful pillows and a natural fibre rug over your neutral carpet will do the trick and make your house feel like a home.
3. Traditional pattern
One of the easiest ways to ensure a classic look that is not dated is picking a traditional pattern carpet. You can then complement the room with some slick modern furniture for a trendy feel or you can add some natural tones and textures for a country chic look that never gets old.
4. Set the tone
Picture light blue walls, dark wood and white accessories. Now what can change this room from a royal, masculine space to a beachfront relaxing oasis is the colour of the carpet. Go for a darker brown hue for a sophisticated office or living room, or pick sand-like beiges for a more tranquil master or guest bedroom.

5. Highlight room dimensions
By using straight linear patterned carpets, you can highlight the length of a room and make it feel longer and bigger or smaller and cosier, depending on the orientation you choose.
